Hudson's Hope

The District of Hudson's Hope has lifted an evacuation alert in place since July 16, when a 10,000-plus-hectare wildfire menaced the town.

Firefighters made their first attack on the Mount McAllister fire outside Hudson's Hope Thursday, as cool conditions and light rain made it possible to put boots on the ground for the first time.

Hudson's Hope residents were ordered to evacuate town Wednesday afternoon as a wildfire southwest of town burned out of control. The order came after an alert earlier in the day for residents to be ready to leave the area at a moment's notice.

The eerie twilight gleam and layer of ash many residents have found on their vehicles are a result of a wildfire burning just southwest of Hudson's Hope, at Mount McAllister.
