Luminary ceremony planned for June 27

For the first time since its inception in 2012, there will be no Arnie Isberg Memorial 1-Pitch Tournament as the popular fundraiser was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, organizers are keeping the spirit of the tournament alive with a "Light for Life, Join the Fight" luminary ceremony.

Participants will be able to pickup and drop-off luminary bags from Imagine That from June 15 to 19, and design and decorate the bags with inspiring messages. On June 27 from 8 to 11 p.m., the bags will be displayed at the Hospital walking track.

The tournament normally closes with a luminary ceremony around one of the baseball diamonds in Taylor.

There is a minimum donation to pick up and decorate a bag. All funds raised from the ceremony will go towards the Fort St. John Hospital Foundation’s Cancer Diagnosis and Care Fund.

“We still want to honour our loved ones. To us, it is very important,” said volunteer organizer Kerri Laurin. “Everyone has been touched by cancer. We still want to do a fundraiser to remember our families.”
