RCMP confirms hunting accident death near Bonanza

No further details are being released

Alberta RCMP have confirmed a Jan. 18 hunting accident that led to the death of an unidentified person. 

The accident took place near Bonanza.

No further details regarding where the person was from, their age or their gender are being released at this time. Police are not saying whether any charges are being in laid as a result.

An investigation is underway.

“It is a sensitive matter,” Cpl. Laurel Scott of the province’s RCMP strategic communications department in Cold Lake said when reached by telephone Friday morning. “We’re not putting out a media release on this.”

Speaking to the Alaska Highway News on Thursday afternoon, Cpl. Rick Lemay of the Spirit River detachment also offered no comment on the death, noting that the investigation is on going.

Lemay said the detachment may offer a release "down the road," once the investigation is complete.

Alberta's Office of the Chief Medical Examiner declined to offer any details. Emergency officials with the Saddle Hills County local government also declined to offer any further information.

Bonanza is a half hour drive east of Dawson Creek.
