The first of five new bridges along Highway 29 and the future Site C reservoir has opened to traffic.
BC Hydro says the new 158-metre Dry Creek bridge recently opened for use, calling it a major milestone as part of highway alignments in the Peace River valley.
“Overall, construction for the Highway 29 realignment is more than 85 per cent complete,” said Site C community relations manager Bob Gammer.
“At this time, we expect Farrell Creek and Cache Creek to open later this fall. We also anticipate that Lynx Creek Bridge will be completed by the end of this year and Halfway River is expected to be open to traffic in early 2023.”
In all, six sections and 32 kilometres of Highway 29 are being realigned for the Site C reservoir, which will widen the Peace River by about two to three times its current footprint, according to BC Hydro.
