Nearly 1,500 Site C workers now immunized

500 vaccine doses remaining

BC Hydro says nearly 1,500 Site C workers have received their first shot of COVID-19 vaccine.

On-site vaccine clinics resumed April 22, and spokesman Dave Conway said the vaccine rollout continues amid an outbreak of cases among workers.

Site C is part of the AstraZeneca vaccine rollout at industrial sites across northern B.C, and there are about 500 vaccine doses remaining, Conway said.

As of Friday, there were 1,462 workers reported in camp, including 38 in isolation.

There are currently 13 active cases among workers, and Northern Health declared an outbreak Thursday after 34 lab-confirmed cases were identified among five clusters of cases among employees working primarily on civil works and excavation for the project.

BC Hydro says 100 workers are isolating at home or on site.

Construction continues, and both Northern Health and BC Hydro say there will be an increased focus on immunizations, along with a review of COVID-19 safety plans and prevention measures.
