Site C: $128-million balance of plant electrical contract awarded

BC Hydro announced Wednesday that it has awarded the balance of plant contract for electrical work at Site C to to F&M Installations Ltd. of Nanaimo.

BC Hydro announced Wednesday that F&M Installations Ltd. of Nanaimo has been awarded the balance of plant contract for electrical work at Site C.

The value of the contract is $128 million, which BC Hydro said will include all remaining electrical work needed to complete  construction of the Site C generating station and spillways, and other related facilities.

The company will mobilize to the work site outside Fort St. John this fall, with work scheduled to be completed in 2024, BC Hydro said.

“F&M Installations is an established industrial contractor specializing in generation, transmission and distribution projects for electric utility providers and has a 15-year history of working on BC Hydro projects,” BC Hydro said in its announcement.

“This includes the Site C substation, Mica Dam Units 5 and 6 Project, John Hart Generating Station Replacement Project and the isophase bus replacement at GM Shrum Generating Station.”

Earlier this year, Burnaby-based Mitchell Installations Ltd. was awarded a $70-million contract for balance of plant mechanical work.
