Site C workforce reported at 4,175 in December

There were 4,175 workers counted at Site C in December, according to the latest employment figures from BC Hydro.

Of the total workforce for the month, one in five workers remained local, with 840 Peace region residents employed by construction and non-construction contractors. 

There were 2,977 B.C. residents, or 71% of the workforce, working for construction and non-construction contractors, and in engineering and project team jobs, according to the report.

BC Hydro reported 156 apprentices for the month, as well as 320 indigenous workers, and 435 women working on the project. There was one temporary foreign worker employed in a specialized position, BC Hydro said, and another 30 managers and other professionals working under the federal international mobility program.

As of Feb. 2, there were 1,318 workers in camp, including 38 in self-isolation, and 42 other workers isolating at home due to COVID-19. There are 80 active COVID-19 cases among the workforce.
