With the help of Taylor and Fort St. John, young Sarah Byford was able to raise $1,099 for the Ronald McDonald House last month.
Byford, 9, collected bottles in both communities for the month of June, and she biked 195 kilometres as part of the agency’s Step Up For Families fundraising challenge.
“This community is amazing,” says mom Amy. “The rain didn’t stop her from biking or sorting bottles.”
Byford was the local ambassador for the challenge, and is a long-time supporter of the Ronald McDonald House.
Participants were encouraged to walk, cycle, or run at least 73 kilometres in June, representing the 73-room House for parents and siblings of children requiring care at BC Children’s Hospital in Vancouver. They were also challenged to raise at least $125, which covers the cost of one family staying at the House for one night.
Byford has raised $14,000 over the last three years in support of sick kids and the charities that help them, and she’s not done yet.
“She felt so special,” Amy says. “Her charity work is not done. Kids still need her help and she wants to help. She said she can’t wait to team up with someone to make lots more money as all sick kids need to smile.”
