Speed skating aficioinados will want to make their way to the Pomeroy Sport Centre Oval this Saturday and Sunday for the 2020 B.C. Long Track Championships and FUNale.
The provincial competition goes from 9 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 25, and 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 26.
Fort St. John hosted the 2019 B.C. Championship as well. More than 100 skaters of all ages will be competing, with the younger skaters taking part in the FUNale. This is the first speed skating competition held at the Pomeroy since Canada Cup 1 in December, 2019. It's also the final competition for the Fort St. John Elks skaters before the B.C. Winter Games, also at the Pomeroy Oval, February 20 to 23.
B.C. Speed Skating has announced the skaters who will represent Zone 8, which includes Fort St. John, at the Winter Games. Those skaters are: Matthew Mitchell, Benjamin Konwicki, Theo Clarke, Emma North, Cheyanne Key, Pareesa Jones, Austin MacGregor, Henry Beaton, Christopher Earl, Nolan Vansickle.
