Beginning of Fort St. John Curling Club season delayed a week

Curlers will have to wait just a little while longer for the start of the Fort St. John Curling Club season. The season was set to start on Oct. 15, but a leak was found in the ice plant when workers started it up. It’s since been fixed, and the club is on schedule for an Oct. 22 start date.

Startup was already delayed, because the company that installed the club’s new ice plant last winter was required — as per warranty — to run the startup of the plant, and were unable to do so until early October. Flooding is underway, and will continue for the next four days.

“It’s unfortunate, but everything is fixed and we’ll be ready to go by October 22,” said Trudy Mitchell, the club’s general manager.

On the bright side, since startup was delayed, the deadline to register has been pushed back until Oct. 18. People can register by calling Mitchell at 250-785-2037, or visiting her at the curling club on weekdays.
