Canadian High School Rodeo Finals cancelled

High School Rodeo of B.C. did all it could to salvage some events this year, but in the end it wasn't meant to be. The last remaining rodeo that had to be decided upon was the 2020 Canadian High School Rodeo Finals in Merritt, but the board of directors announced today the rodeo has been cancelled.

"In light of the current Provincial Health Order in B.C. restricting gatherings to 50 or less people and inter-provincial travel being strongly discouraged, the HSR of BC Board of Directors has voted to cancel the 2020 CHSFR," said a statement from the board on the HSR Facebok page. "This is not a decision we have taken lightly, however, we don't see any choice in the matter."

The board exhausted all options and worked tirelessly to try to hold some rodeo events this year.

The National Finals Rodeo will stake place, starting July 17, in Guthrie, Oklahoma. Peace Region athletes have qualified but it's not been confirmed who will be making the trip, and if the border restrictions will allow them to do so.

"We would like to wish all of the competitors headed to Nationals the best of luck, (and) the 2020 graduates all the best in their future endeavors. Hoping for brighter days ahead," the board wrote.
