The Giants were having an OK season before the WHL 2019-20 season was cancelled. The team was third in the B.C. Division with a 32-24-6 record and 70 points, and had qualified for the playoffs.

Semeniuk's signing comes four days after his cousin and Delta teammate Caden Brown (taken 17th overall) signed his WHL Standard Player Agreement with the Prince George Cougars.
