Fivestar not pulling any punches as fall season begins

Sports clubs across town are opening back up for the fall season, but boxing is one sport that is especially flying under the radar. No, there won't be any boxing matches taking place until 2021 at the earliest, but the Fivestar Boxing Academy is rolling on.

Kids classes were on hold for the last few months, and the summer is always a slow period, but Fivestar has continued to provide athletes with the chance to train and learn the sweet science. Fivestar is resuming its full weekly schedule this week after moving to just three classes a week for the summer.

"The gym is sanitized daily, we may cap some of the classes, but we will be holding classes and training as we normally do," said Coach Justin Donally.

Until Boxing B.C. and Boxing Canada release a return-to-boxing plan, no sanctioned competitions will be held, but Donally's competitive fighters have continued to train, even if they are a far way from being in fight shape.

Donally was set to hold a fight card at the Lito Theatre in May, after a number of years away from the venue, but the pandemic forced him to cancel the event.

It could be a while before he's able to hold an event again, but he continues to throw jabs at ideas and explore his options for what an event could like when fights are allowed to resume.
