Last year the Flyers beat the River Kings 6-1 in Fort Nelson to capture the franchises’ first Coy Cup.

Rick Cleaver, the North Peace Hockey League MVP scored the game-winning goal for the Flyers in the final with a wrist shot from the slot on a scramble play in front of the Terrace net early in the third period.

While the Flyers looked to have the game in control late, the River Kings pulled their goalie and scored with a minute and 21 seconds left in the third and came within a goal.

Tory Hunt was brilliant in net for the Flyers, keeping the game scoreless in the first period and making a several key saves down the stretch to help close out the win for Fort St. John.

Joey Massingham opened the scoring for the Flyers in the second period when he tipped a Tyler Loney point shot past the River kings netminder.

After the River Kings tied the game a short time later, Josh Bostock went top shelf to give the Flyers a 2-1 lead.

The River Kings had trouble generating any offense in the third, until they finally broke through late with their net empty.

Joey Massingham was named player of the game and Tyler Loney was named tournament MVP.

More to come.
