Fort St. John Huskies collecting food bank donations this weekend

The Fort St. John Huskies 23rd annual Fill the Bus food drive for the Salvation Army food bank is still a go this Sunday, Nov. 29. However, the drive itself will look quite different, and the bus won't be involved at all.

"We felt we still needed to do this for the Salvation Army as we believe there are going to more people needing to access the food bank more this season," said Traci Hammond, the team's special events co-ordinator.

With the North Peace Arena closed, players and volunteers will be dropping their collected food and organizing the donations at the Salvation Army, removing the need for a bus and avoiding having many people in an enclosed tight space through current public health orders.

Instead of going door-to-door, players will be stationed around town and accepting food donations while wearing a mask and socially distancing.

Donations will be accepted from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the parking lot of the following locations:

— The Salvation Army
— North Peace Secondary School
— Dr. Kearney Middle School
— Bert Bowes Middle School
— Alwin Holland Elementary School
— Bert Ambrose Elementary School
— CM Finch Elementary School
— Bell Media Studio
— Butcher Block

Food can be dropped off at local grocery stores as well.
