The Fort St. John Special Olympics team recently participated in an athletics meet in Kelowna, BC at the Apple Bowl stadium with nine other locals from Vernon, Quesnel, Prince George, Comox, Abbotsford, Kamloops, North Shore, Ridge Meadows, and Kelowna .
The team participated in 20 individual events (events included 5K, 800M, 200M, 100M, Shotput, Long Jump, and Javelin). Sheryl Jakubowsk won first place in running long jump, Miranda Laboucane was first in the 100m race, and Cheyenne Attachie won the standing long jump. Jenelle Russell and Tina Tomplins also competed and won ribbons.
In total the team returned with three first place finishes, three second place finishes, and four third place finishes for a total of 10 ribbons. A very decent result considering that it was a large track and field meet.
