Lake Point plans Peace Country Open July 11-12

In working with Northern Health, Lake Point is going ahead with the 2020 Petron Communications Peace Country Open on July 11 and 12. It will be the first golf tournament held in the Peace Region so far this summer.

General Manager Troy Knight said the tournament will be limited to 48 players, and efforts will be made to ensure players are separated on the course. Discussions are ongoing with Northern Health about the possibility increasing the number of golfers.

"People are dying to have a tournament and some kind of event, anything to do outside right now," said Knight.

"Right now, there isn't much of that happening but the Peace Country Open is a prestigious event that Lake Point has held for years and years and we'd like to keep that going."

Ritch Hosker and Ann Sawyer won the 2019 men's and ladies championships. Gene Danyluk won the senior's title.

It remains to be seen whether Lake Point will be able to go ahead with the annual Charity Pro-Am, and the same goes for other golf courses in the region hosting tournaments of any kind.

However, Lake Point  will exhaust every option to host more tournaments throughout the summer.

"If it's possible, then we are going to try and figure it out," Knight said.
