Laurie Cardinal completes 125km Canadian Death Race

Marathon runner Laurie Cardinal, from Fort St. John, was in Grande Cache, Alberta last weekend for the 19th annual Canadian Death Race, August 4 and 5. Cardinal, competing in the Female 40-49 age category, finished 19th out of 29 racers with a time of 24 hours, 2 minutes, and 50.4 seconds.

The Death Race is a 125km ultra-marathon is an extremely grueling ordeal consisting of mountain summits, descents, wildlife, and running in the dark overnight. Finishing the race is no easy task, as out of the 271 people who started the race, 97 didn't finish.
