Northern Lights Raceway Big Bux event cancelled

Mother Nature strikes again. This weekend's Big Bux Race at Northern Lights Raceway has been cancelled due to the heavy rainfall and cold temperatures forecasted for Saturday and Sunday.

"Even if we do avoid some rainfall, the highs are just 10 degrees and that doesn't make for good racing. Since people usually come from all over Alberta and B.C. for this event, we thought we'd cancel it before they made the drive," said Northern Lights Raceway President Robin DeRose.

The Big Bux event was the second-last race of the season. While it's not a points race, and therefore won't be rescheduled, it was one of the more popular events of the year being a cash race.

"It is what it is unfortunately, but next year will be bigger and better," DeRose said.

The raceway will be back in use September 7 and 8 with the Mastec/ Norweld Industries Season Finale, where the season points champions will be determined.
