SCOREBOARD: Fort St. John Huskies 4, County of Grande Prairie Kings 2

It was the start the defending NWJHL champions expected.

Huskies player of the week Dean Whitcomb fittingly led the way with two goals as the Fort St. John Huskies doubled the County of Grande Prairie Kings 4-2 in their season opener in Clairmont Friday night.

Whitcomb’s markers came just over four minutes apart late in the second period, with Fort St. John down 1-0 and 2-1.

Brady Marzocco and Jared Loewen added the other goals for the Huskies in the third, giving Marzocco three points on the night.

The Huskies, who hold their charity golf tournament Sunday at Lone Wolf, return to the ice Friday, September 27 in Dawson Creek.

Jacob Romanowski got the win in goal, allowing two goals on just 12 shots. Fort St. John badly outshot the Kings, 49-12.
