The NWJHL Final between the Fort St. John Huskies and County of Grande Prairie JDA Kings began in earnest last night at the North Peace Arena. The Huskies broke out to an early 2-0 lead halfway through the first period, but the game was tied by the end of the frame. In the end, the Huskies were unable to put the Kings away, and lost in overtime, 4-3.
There wern't many penalties, or goals scored after the first. Aiden Craig-Steele was a bright spot for Fort St. John, scoring two goals. Though the Huskies outshot the Kings 42 to 25, Jonathan Bateman only stopped 21 of the 25 shots he faced.
The positive takeaways from this game for the Huskies are that they came out strong and that they were in the game the entire way. However, they'll have to be better in Game 2, which goes Saturday, March 16 in Grande Prairie at 8 p.m.
