SCOREBOARD (Game Five) : North Peace Navigators 4, Fort St. John Huskies 3

After an ugly Game 4, the Fort St. John Huskies were determined to bounce back with a much better effort in Game 5, and they did exactly that, firing 53 shots on North Peace Navigator goalie Ryan Noble. Unfortunately, Noble was up for the challenge, and stole the game for the Navigators, 4-3.

“It’s not that we couldn’t find the net, that goaltender played a hell of a game tonight and is a big reason the score was the way it was. He faced a lot of dangerous shots,” said Huskies Coach Todd Alexander.

“Our game was awesome tonight, we possessed the puck a lot and had lots of zone time. We just ran into a hot goalie.”

The Huskies were down 2-0 after the second period, but almost got a break when the Navs, on a delayed powerplay, accidentally shot a puck down the ice towards their own empty net that hit the post and bounced out.

In the third, the Huskies came out roaring, scoring early, but the Navigators got two huge goals, one on a delayed penalty and the other on the penalty, to maintain a big lead. The Huskies didn’t quit, and would eventually score two goals in the final 40 seconds of the game, but just ran out of time. Fort St. John ended up with 24 shots in the third period.

The Navigators now have a 3-2 series lead, and can close it out at home tonight in Game 6, which starts at 8 p.m.

“I liked a lot of things we were doing offensively and now we just have to bear down, this is the playoffs. They’re riding a hot goalie, but at the start of the day we had to win two games to win the series and nothing has changed,” said Alexander.
