Travis Eggers wins 2020 Peace Country Open

The first golf tournament of the year in the Peace region — fittingly named the Peace Country Open — has come and gone, with Travis Eggers winning the championship once again.

Eggers played two great rounds in somewhat tough conditions, scoring one-under par for the tournament.

“I’m very satisfied with being under par here. This is a golf course that resists scoring as far as I’m concerned,” Eggers said. “The course was drenched on Friday and the fact that they could get it to where it was today was impressive and I’m glad to be out here.”

It's the seventh time Eggers has won the tournament going back to 2005, the year the names were first recorded on the current trophy, though he's won it many more times than that. Ritch Hosker has his name on the trophy six times.

Eggers will look to win back to back tournaments when he competes in the Lone Wolf Classic next weekend, July 18 and 19, a tournament he has won many times before. Hosker won both tournaments back-to-back in 2019.

There were 48 golfers participating in five flights, fewer than the 70 the tournament normally gets, but the limit Lake Point could have due to COVID-19.

"I guess you could say that for the first time, we sold out the Peace Country Open," joked Lake Point GM Troy Knight.

The tournament went off as smoothly as possible, a big plus considering the uncertainties around holding events and tournaments this year.

Next up for Lake Point is the 2020 Lake Point Pro-Am, a major on the Vancouver Golf Tour, July 29 and 30. There are 16 pros committed, with three amateurs playing with each professional.

"The Pro-Am will have specific regulations due to COVID-19 as well, and we're looking forward to another great event," Knight said.
