Watt Irish dancers impress at prestigious Western Canadian Irish Dance Championships

Twenty local dancers participated in the prestigious Western Canadian Irish Dance Championships, many of them returning with qualifications for major events in upcoming months.

A total of 15 members of the Watt School of Irish Dance secured medal holding placements at the event.

Among those, McKinley Pomeroy (U8), Hillary Campbell (U9), Reese Gibbons (U10), Elyse Kemp (U10), Mia Hamre (U12), Kale Dietz (U13), Naia Gibbons (U13), Mélodie Kemp (U14), Aiden Korfmann (U14), and Emalee Chapple (U15) earned podium positions in their respective age groups.

The event brought together the best of the best from BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba, with thousands of dancers attending annually. Saskatoon was the host city this year while next season the dancers will travel to Calgary.

Next up for these young athletes are the 2020 All Ireland Championships (Killarney, Ireland - February 15-23), the World Championships (Dublin, Ireland - April 5-12), and the North American Championships (Nashville, Tennessee - July 2-6).
