The U14 Dawson Creek Volleyball Club (DCVC) Dynamite is heading to Provincials in April after taking home a bronze medal at their second Alberta Volleyball Association (AVA) Premier Tournament.
The girls placed third out of 24 teams in Division 3 at the Premiers, and coach Roxy Honing said the team is looking forward to moving on to their first Provincial Championships.
"I think they are pretty excited," said Honing. "We fought through some really tough games."
In order to qualify for Provincials, teams have to be seated in two Premier Tournaments, and DCVC had to win at least bronze in the last tournament in order to move to a higher seating in the Provincials.
Honing said it was a close game that bumped the girls out of the silver and gold matchup - and the team had it even harder, she added, as they played without any subs.
"We were playing with a smaller squad, compared to the other teams we came across," said Honing, who reasoned that when coming from a smaller community, that is sometimes the case. "The team showed a lot of heart."
The AVA Provincials take place from April 11 to 13 in Sylvan Lake. The DCVC Dynamite will move up a division for Provincials, battling it out in Division 2.
