The Dawson Creek Elementary Cross Country Running Series will wrap up this Thursday with the fourth district race of the year at Kin Park.
Ecole Frank Ross hosted the third race last week with over 60 athletes participating in the loop course.
"The coaching and time spent in the previous two races have paid off with improved performances by many athletes," said Eric Wolf, series coordinator.
"The most competitive age group is by far the students in Grades 4 and 5. On the girl's side, Bailey Shoemaker and Rylie Bondaroff have been in the top three in all races. Both girls came second and third, finishing behind Hailey Hanston. With a different winner in all three races in the boys 4-5 category, this week's winner Logan Hansen from Notre Dame will be contending for the series win [this week] with Ethan Van Tassel and Carter Blaeser of Crescent Park, John Garwah from Ntore Dame and Wyatt Sorken from Canalta."
In the Girls K-1 category Emma-Lea Sowan finished first with Mikayla Christenson coming in a close second. Each race in the series had a different winner in the Boys K-1 category, with this week's winner being Daniel Katz from Frank Ross.
In the Grade 2 to 3 category, Alyssa Shen from Canalta and Owen Lizotte from Ecole Frank Ross both came first, and as result, both runners will be the series winner in their age groups after dominating all series.
In Grades 6-7, Adam Wrangler of Notre Dame and Sarah Shoemaker from Ecole Frank Ross won all three races in a row, meaning they also wrap up the series win for their age groups.
"The results from the third race in the series have meant that [this] week's district race will have many contenders racing for the final win, as well as competing in the final series spots that are still up for grabs," Wolf said.
Registration for the fourth race starts at 10 a.m. at Kin Park on Thursday.
The schedule is as follows:
10:30 - Kindergarten and Grade 1
10:45 - Grade 2 and 3
11:00 - Grade 4 and 5
11:20 - Grade 6 and 7
Students from Frank Ross, Crescent Park, Canalta and Notre Dame are asked to speak to their coaches regarding registration and other teachers can contact Eric Wolf at DCSS (firstname.lastname@example.org) to ask about entry tags. Parents are welcome to come and watch and cheer on the students.
