Skill abundant at Northern Rockies' fun tournament

The Northern Rockies Karate Tournament was about showcasing skill and having fun this weekend.

"For the kids, they get a chance to meet other kids through karate and have an interaction. It's more than just training in the dojo, it's a chance to show off what they can do and to meet other people and have fun in the process," said Chantiel Drschiwiski with the Northern Rockies Karate-do.

In addition to demonstrating their skills with performances in kata, team kata, weapons divisions and kumate, the participants also got to show their abilities at fun events like blind kata.

In blind kata, participants did their katas blindfolded and had to end back in their starting position.

"It's hard because your balance is off and it's wobbly. It seems like it would be easy, but it's not," said Skye Stribbell, a Northern Rockies student from Tumbler Ridge.

The concentration and dedication to karate was evident as participants of all ages performed to the best of their abilities and showed their remarkable discipline to the judges.

"I think it's a great opportunity to come out and meet lots of different people and just have a great time," concluded Gillian McTaggart, a Northern Rockies member from Hudson's Hope.
