Three in the running for MLA in Peace River North

There are three candidates in the running for the Oct. 24 provincial election in Peace River North.

Incumbent MLA Dan Davies is seeking re-election for a second term with the BC Liberals. Challenging him are BC Conservative leader Trevor Bolin, a sitting city councillor in Fort St. John, and Danielle Monroe for the NDP.

Though the nominations for Bolin and Monroe have been announced, Elections BC had yet to confirm and post their names as of 5 p.m. Friday. Both filed their nominations Friday morning shortly before the 1 p.m. deadline, and the agency is still processing nominations across the province.

The NDP has yet to release any details about Monroe other than her nomination. It's not known if it is the same Danielle Monroe listed in the government directory as a ministerial assistant to NDP MLA and former energy and jobs minister Michelle Mungall.

Advance voting runs Thursday, Oct. 15 to Wednesday, Oct. 21, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Polling stations are being finalized.

General Voting Day runs 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24. Polling stations are being finalized.

A mail-in voting package can be requested requested online or by calling 1-800-661-8683 by Oct. 17. Completed packages must be received by Elections BC before 8 p.m. on Oct. 24.

A televised leader's debate is set for Oct. 13, featuring NDP Leader John Horgan, BC Liberal Leader Andrew Wilkinson, and Green Leader Sonia Furstenau.

Conservative leader Bolin was not invited to take part. "All British Columbians deserve to hear from the party leaders and have them take part in the debate," he said.

An all candidates forum in Peace River North is tentatively set for Oct. 14 at the Lido.
